Conference “Climate Resilience in Islands and Local Government” - Pathways2Resilience
The Climate Change Hub, in co-organization with ELIAMEP, is organising a conference titled “Climate Resilience in Islands and Local Government,” which will take place on Tuesday, 20 January, from 16:30 to 21:30, at the Hellenic American Union (22 Massalias Street).
The conference is held within the framework of the Pathways2Resilience (P2R) programme – the project “SMILE – Strengthening the resilience of small and medium-sized islands with a focus on Ithaca and Skiathos.” The SMILE project is implemented by the partners Climate Change Hub and ELIAMEP, with the participation of the Municipalities of Ithaca and Skiathos, and with the support of the Resilient Cities Catalyst.
Aiming to strengthen public dialogue on climate change and to highlight the need for collaborative governance with a focus on Local Government, the conference brings together the scientific community, policy-makers, municipal representatives, and social partners. It focuses both on challenges and on practical solutions to issues such as water management, infrastructure, the protection of natural and cultural heritage, and the participation of local communities in building climate resilience strategies.
The conference consists of thematic interventions featuring contributions from representatives of the scientific community, policy-makers, municipal representatives, and social partners. A policy paper on the conference theme, “Climate Resilience in Islands and Local Government,” will also be presented.
As part of the conference, an art installation titled “Two Islands and the Sea All Around: Traveling to Ithaca and Skiathos” will be presented, curated by Iris Kritiki, as a continuation of the Climate Change Hub’s interactive art platform “TOPOS in need.” This collective installation focuses on the two islands, highlighting history and memory, the sense of homecoming, the ecology of the landscape, and the exchange of valuable experience and knowledge.
